Nathan Patin

Nathan Patin is a director based in Colorado and head of Mintz Group’s Digital Investigations practice. He leads the Digital Investigations Group (DIG), a global team of investigators with backgrounds ranging from former data and investigative journalists to threat intelligence analysts and seasoned online researchers, all of whom bring deep expertise in uncovering hidden information on the internet.  

Since joining the Mintz Group in 2016, Nathan has worked on hundreds of investigations, including matters involving harassment and disinformation campaigns; asset tracing; short seller activism; business email compromise; intellectual property theft; the dark web; and hack-and-leak operations. 

A recognized authority on open-source intelligence (OSINT), Nathan served for a decade as a member of the award-winning investigative collective Bellingcat, and his research has been cited by major media outlets including The New York Times, NPR and CNN. He has trained journalists, researchers and investigators worldwide and has presented his work at leading conferences, including CYBERWARCON.

Nathan served as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, where he created and taught the “Hands-On Open-Source Investigation” (SEST-656) course for master’s students in the Security Studies Program.
