Justine Sharrock is a Director in the San Francisco office, where she specializes in managing executive due diligence investigations for corporations, investment firms, academia, nonprofits and other organizations.
Justine joined the Mintz Group in 2014 and has conducted a wide variety of investigations, including complex litigation, asset tracing, and cross-border pre-hire and pre-deal due-diligence investigations. She tracked down and interviewed former employees of a healthcare technology company to expose a pattern of defrauding investors and patients through faking its technology. For an international investor, she uncovered financial fraud and sexual misconduct at a prestigious sports training program through off reference interviews and public record research. For the legal defense of a libel lawsuit against a New York newspaper, Justine interviewed dozens of reality television show staff to discover the secrets on set. She has uncovered #MeToo allegations against a Hollywood executive and allegations of plagiarism against an Ivy League academic during the course of prehire due diligence investigations.
Justine was previously an investigative journalist and editor. She worked for publications including Mother Jones, UK Financial Times’s Magazine, Wired, San Francisco magazine and National Geographic Explorer, covering topics including United States torture regime, the prison industrial complex and right-wing militias, including the seminal investigation into the Oath Keepers. She wrote the book, Tortured, based on the first hand account of U.S. soldiers working in post-9/11 military detention centers.
Justine has a BA from University of California –Berkeley and an MA from Columbia University, where she studied journalism and international human rights reporting.
